Hello and thank you for trying out MobileCamStreamer. With MobileCamStreamer, you can remotely connect to and view your home webcam using MobileCamViewer as if it were an IP camera. The setup might be a little intimidating at first, but we’re here to help. So let’s get started!
The setup process consists of two sections. Connecting the camera to our servers and adding the camera to your MobileCamViewer client. Before you start, please make sure you have the following things handy:
Webcam:
Any standard endconsumer webcam should do here. This can be a built-in camera in your laptop, or a USB camera.
Windows Computer:
To stream your camera stream into the internet, you need a desktop or laptop computer running Windows NT, XP or Vista.
Internet Connection:
Any instant-on internet connection such as DSL or Cable should do the job.
MobileCamViewer:
An active trial or full version of MobileCamViewer installed on any compatible mobile device.
Ready? Ok here we go:
SET UP YOUR WEBCAM WITH MOBILECAMSTREAMER
1)
Set up your webcam
Please make sure that you have your webcam properly installed and connected. You can test that using the setup/snapshot software that came with your webcam. But if you can use the webcam fine on chat software such as MSN Messenger or Skype, you should be ready to go.
2)
Download and install MobileCamStreamer
After your camera is running properly, you are ready to run MobileCamStreamer. If you don’t have a copy yet, click below to start the installation process and follow the instructions.
3)
Make sure you have a copy of MobileCamViewer
In order to successfully set up your webcam, you need to have the full version of MobileCamViewer installed on a compatible device (cell phone, Windows Mobile device,…) and the User ID handy. The User ID is the same hexadecimal code you used to register your trial version or pay for your subscription of MobileCamViewer.
If you have purchased MobileCamViewer for your iPhone or iPod Touch via the Apple App Store, you might not be familiar with this number. You can find it at the bottom of the help screen of the software.
4)
Launch MobileCamStreamer
If you have installed MobileCamStreamer for the first time, it will launch automatically. Otherwise, you can find it in your start menu by going to “All Programs” -> “mobiDEOS, Inc” -> “MobileCamStreamer”.
When MobileCamStreamer is launched, it automatically detects all webcams you have connected to your pc and selects the first one by default. Please allow a few seconds for the detection process. Once MobileCamStreamer is done with the detection of your cameras, it will automatically open the Configuration dialog.
5)
Select your Camera
If you have more than one webcam connected to your computer, please select the camera you would like to use for this installation of MobileCamStreamer. You can only use one Camera at a time per installation. You can pick your camera from the select box, which should show you a preview of the camera in the window on the right. If you can’t see the camera preview, please verify with the camera’s native software that it is running properly.
If you would like MobileCamStreamer to start automatically when Windows starts, please select the appropriate check box. Please note: This will also automatically start the service, in other words, connect to the MobileCamStreamer servers if an internet connection is available. This way, should your computer need to automatically restart, your camera will be ready again for transmission immediately.
If you would to get an audio notification on your computer when your camera is accessed, please check the appropriate check box.
6)
Register your Camera
Ok, this section of the setup process might be the difficult one to understand. So lets go over it step by step:
Since your webcam does not have an IP address, it needs to have a unique name that it can be identified by from our servers. Think of this Camera ID the same way as, for example, your skype id. Your Camera ID can consist of letters and numbers, upper or lower case. But please be aware that you will have to enter the camera name in your MobileCamViewer client exactly the same way.
Next, choose a password for this camera. This will protect your camera from being viewed by just anyone.
Finally, your webcam needs to be registered to your MobileCamViewer Client ID. There are a limited amount of webcams you can register for each Client ID. How many depends on the type of subscription you have. But each MobileCamStreamer installation supports only one camera. So if you would like to register two webcams, you will need to run them on two different computers.
Should you ever change your mind about using this camera, please don’t forget to unregister it from your account.
When you’re all done, press “Submit”. At this point, MobileCamStreamer will try to connect to our servers and associate your camera with your account. If this is successful, the service will be automatically started and your camera will be available for viewing!
SET UP YOUR WEBCAM ON YOUR MOBILECAMVIEWER CLIENT
Now, to see your camera on your mobile device, you will need to add the camera manually on your phone. By registering your camera in MobileCamStreamer, the camera is not automatically added as a camera in the client with the specified Client ID. The reason for that is that the transmitter of the camera does not necessarily have to be the viewer. For example, you might want to view your friend’s camera, while they would like to view yours. Here's how it goes:
1)
Launch MobileCamViewer on your mobile device.
2)
Click on “Set Up Camera”
3)
Select “Add Webcam”
4)
Select “Settings”
5)
Select a display name for your camera. This does not have to be the same as the Camera ID you have chosen for your camera, but it can be. This name will only be used for your identification in your camera list.
6)
Enter your Camera ID. This name has to be the same as the Camera ID you have picked during the setup process in the MobileCamStreamer software. Please note that this is case sensitive.
7)
Enter the access password for your camera.
8)
Click “OK”
9)
Click “Add”. You’re done! You can now view your webcam on your mobile device. Share the Camera ID and password with as many people as you like, if you would like for them to be able to see your camera feed.
